Weekend Away Pt 1 – Hotel

Hello everyone!

Recently I went away to Shap, Penrith for a weekend with my boyfriend. I’m going to split this post into two so that it isn’t stupidly long to read.  This one will be able the hotel only – I will have the second post about food and activities.

I was given a Buy a Gift voucher from my dad that meant I had a 2 night stay at a hotel of my choice (within the limits of the site).  I must say there was a huge choice of where we could go but we had our heart set on somewhere near the Lake District!  After hours of contemplation we decided to go with The Best Western – Shap Wells Hotel.

We left relatively early on Friday 27th to kick start our over 4 hour journey. We do a lot of driving so this journey was pretty easy. I won’t speak too much about the journey as it honestly was nothing interesting! Lets go straight into arriving.

First of all, the comments on Trip Advisor said that the hotel was in the middle of nowhere and I looked through all of the pictures and couldn’t see why they would say that… believe me, it is in the middle of nowhere!  You go onto a road that is just in the middle of grassland, you almost feel like you have gotten lost. This truly wasn’t an issue for us because we were looking for a chilled and quiet weekend anyway!

The hotel from the outside is completely different from the inside – both equally as gorgeous just in very different ways.

This the first thing you see as you come into the building.  It is very old fashioned and almost vintage looking – and that is exactly what I love!  I didn’t get many pictures of the lobby or any of the areas downstairs as there was a function on and I didn’t want to have lots of people in the picture. That being said, there is a lot of photos on their website that is linked above that you can look at.

Lets talk about the room!

It was a lovely big room with a pretty double bed.  Again the interior was of an old fashioned vibe and again I loved it. There was a nice big flat screen TV on the wall but we didn’t use it very much. There was also a lot of hanging space so it would be perfect if you were having a longer stay than we did.

The bathroom confused me a lot.  Don’t get me wrong it was gorgeous but it was very modern and didn’t go with the theme of the hotel.  A wee word of warning – the shower is very difficult to get to the right temperature! We learnt that the very hard (and sore) way!

Unfortunately, the whole time that we were there it rained and was super foggy so I was unable to take any photos of the hotel grounds which is a real shame because I think it would look really lovely.

The staff at the hotel were all very lovely and helpful which definitely made you feel welcome.  Overall if you are ever going near the area I would highly recommend that you check out this hotel!

Keep your eyes peeled for part 2!
