BRAND REVIEW | FRICTION FREE SHAVING

March 13, 2018

Does anyone really enjoy shaving their legs? I know I don’t. It’s time consuming, boring and 9 times out of 10 you cut yourself at least once!

Last month, I decided to make a slightly different sort of a purchase… a razor subscription. I’ve seen the company Friction Free Shaving popping up all over my Instagram and Facebook too. I’ve also read bloggers such as; Accidental Hipster Mum, Beauty Geek UK, and Beauty Baking Bella all loving their razors which really pushed me to give it a go.

FFS is the first razor delivery company that is designed specifically for women. There is currently 3 different razor handles to choose from; Frankie, Silvia and Rose. First lets talk about Frankie – this razor handle is the most basic and also the cheapest at £5. When you chose this handle it comes with 4 American made razor refills that have 3 stainless steel razor blades. Silvia and Rose are very much the same apart from their colours. Silvia is a silver razor handle and Rose, can you guess? Yup! Rose is a rose gold razor handle. These 2 beauties come with 4 German-engineered razor refills that have 6 diamond coated steel blades per head. Sounds overly fancy for something that shaves my legs! Once you have chosen your handle you have the option to engrave the razor and select additional items to compliment the razor. The add ons available are; Pre-Shave Scrub, Shave Cream, and Post-Shave Balm all of which are £6 each for 100ml of product.

As you may have guessed I selected Rose. Now, I can probably guess what you’re thinking… “£9 for a razor?! Are you mad?!” It’s the same thing I thought when I was on their site. However, my next thought was that the disposable razors I normally buy can often be useless after one or two uses and so you go through much more of them whereas with FFS you get 4 razor heads that last you the month! Theoretically it should work out cheaper. I figured that since I was giving this company a go I would just go all out and pick up all 3 of the add ons to give the razor a fair trial.

Step 1 – Pre-Shave Scrub

The scrub contains Manuka Honey, Almond Milk and Walnut and is designed to buff off old skin cells, ingrown hairs or blocked pores. The scrub smells really lovely and fresh and isn’t to thick in consistency either. The scrub also isn’t too harsh but still leaves your skin feeling like new!

Step 2 – Shave cream

The shaving cream contains Manuka Honey, Shea Butter and Coconut Oil which is designed to soften your hairs and also make them stand up straight for a much closer shave. They suggest that you leave the cream on your skin for about 15 seconds before you start shaving to give it time to do its thing! I do enjoy the smell of this cream but I do think it smells very similar to sun cream – it doesn’t bother me but I know some people hate it.

I have never used a shaving cream before so I can’t really compare it to anything else however I do think this helped to give me a closer shave. If nothing else it helped to see the exact parts of my legs that I had done already!

Step 3 – Post-Shave Balm

This nourishing balm contains Manuka Honey, Almond Milk and Coca Butter which are all ingredients that are known for their anti-inflammatory properties and are also highly nourishing for the skin. This will help to stop the sore, red rash like ‘symptoms’ that often appear after shaving.

The ‘balm’ title is a little ‘click baity’ as personally when I think of a balm, I think of a thick and oily consistency whereas this is more of a cream in my eyes – not that it bothers me. The balm smells very similar to sun cream but again not in an unpleasant way. It isn’t too thick nor is it sticky – just leaves the skin feeling super moisturised and soft.

The Razor Itself – The razor is undoubtedly beautiful to look at especially with the engraved logo on the handle. It is very comfortable to hold and has a weightiness to it that makes it very easy to use and manoeuvre around difficult places such as knees and ankles. You get such an incredibly close shave in just one glide which means the hassle of shaving your legs is over in less than 5 minutes which for me is amazing.

Overall, I am delighted with everything that I purchased from Friction Free Shaving and I will definitely be keeping up with my subscription. I don’t think I’d pay for the add ons every month but maybe every 2-3 months simply to keep my costs down. Friction Free Shaving allows you to keep your account very flexible – you can cancel at anytime, pause your subscription or change what it is that you are receiving month to month.
