#MATALANMOMENTS | ABERDEEN LAUNCH EVENT AND WHAT I PICKED UP [AD]

I don’t know about you but I forget about Matalan. In Aberdeen our Matalan was situated a wee bit away from everything else and was completely on its own so you had to be specifically keen for Matalan to think of going. Anytime I’ve been to Matalan over the past couple of years it has always been very quiet and just a little run down so when I heard that they were opening up a new and improved store, I was excited to see what it would be like.

I was lucky enough to be contacted by Matalan PR to attend the opening event where we received vouchers to spend in store. The store is now located at Centre Point Retail Park (I would class it as Berryden Retail Park but hey ho!) which I think is a perfect location for Matalan. There is a much higher chance of people visiting Next, Mothercare or even Sainsbury’s, seeing the store and having a quick scoot around Matalan too!

The Event

When I arrived I was met by an unexpected mass of people queued up waiting for the store to open. I honestly didn’t expect anyone to be waiting for the store to open but I guess there are a lot of Matalan lovers in Aberdeen! After a quick chat with the Matalan staff it was time to cut the ribbon and officially open the store.  As customers were walking in the DJ started playing to give it more of an upbeat party vibe. There was other entertainment through-out the morning with some local primary children singing for the customers too.

The store is much bigger than the old one and sectioned off in a more logical order in my opinion. I was also surprised to see that they are selling other labels such as; Soon, FMW and Falmer Heritage alongside their Papaya label. I also felt like the clothing that they had was aimed at a wider variety of ages groups which was great to see.

On to the shopping…

Like I said previously, we were given vouchers to spend in the store so I went about choosing pieces wisely. The first thing I picked up were these fun Gingham Cropped Bengaline Trousers (£10). These were in the workwear section but you could definitely style these with a cami and heels for a night out. For a tenner I am overly impressed with the quality of these trousers – they are so stretchy and comfy! Definitely going back for these in different colours!

Also in the workwear section I found this very vibrant Mustard Yellow Pussybow Shirt (£12.50). I picked up this blouse because I thought it would be lovely paired with the gingham trousers but also think it would look fab with some black skinnies too!

I paired this outfit with some casual black loafer style flats from Primark – A perfect outfit for a day at the office if I do say so myself!

The next item was something a little out of my comfort zone – a midi skirt. I picked up the Animal Print Button Front Midi Skirt (£14). I told you, Monday’s post really did inspire me to push my limits! I thought that the red leopard print was super fun and would be great for styling up for a night out but also great to chuck on some converse and be super comfy too!

I decided to style it with a simple black tee, heart buckle belt and my trusty black boots! I was a little unsure how a midi skirt would look on my figure. I always assumed it would make my bum look bigger but I think this style worked in my favour and flattered my shape well. P.s – I am aware that I need to learn how to fake tan my ghostly legs!

The final purchase I made was a pair of shoes – Red Block Heel Mules (£12) to be exact! Again these are something outwith my comfort zone for sure. I don’t own any bright coloured shoes, nor do I own mules but with a little encouragement from Kirsty I chucked them in my basket!

Overall I am so impressed with both the options available and the quality of items at Matalan – it really surprised me! Everything I purchased was very affordable and I’m excited to see more of what Matalan have to offer in the future!

I know, my mum always use to go in but with it being out of town I’ve not been in years. I can’t wait to get shopping there once I’m in my new house!! X
