[ This post is in collaboration with Yekemi Otaru, owner of Yo Couture. Items were gifted for an honest review ]
Several weeks ago I received a message from Yekemi, telling me about her new company and asked if I wanted to meet up for a chat. We had a great conversation about Aberdeen, the fashion industry, blogging and body confidence too. Yekemi then started to show me her pieces and I just knew I had to get my hands on a dress or two!
WHO ARE YO COUTURE?
Yo Couture was founded in 2019 and specialise in creating African-inspired, beautiful, limited edition fashion. They believe in the power of looking and feeling beautiful through bold and bright outfits. Each design is limited edition so if you like something, you gotta grab it quick!
With the help of a friend, Yekemi used her intelligent business mind to figure out where she wanted to source materials and got to designing. They wanted to be able to support African families and therefore it was an absolute no brainer to use Ankara fabric. These consist of bright, bold prints that are just absolutely mesmerising!
THE PRINCESS DRESS
One of the pieces that I was gifted was The Princess dress. This is a top seller from Yo Couture and it is not difficult to see why! Just look at it!
The midaxi (could be midi, could be maxi dependent on your height) dress consists of beautiful shades of greens and browns with stunning yellow stars. The stars and lighter shades of green form gorgeous tall tree’s around the bottom of the skirt. I honestly just fell in love with this dress completely.
The top of the dress has a lovely cross over design with a low V front. Now, this dress definitely gives you instant summer, elegant vibes but you can absolutely style this piece all year round. Chuck on a black or yellow high neck jumper, a black belt and some boots and you are good to go! I have this dress in a size 14 and it fits my waist like a dream. Never have I worn a dress that fits my waist so freaking good! It is definitely a little roomy around my chest and bottom half but nothing that is super noticeable.
COOL LIFE WRAP TOP
The next piece is the Cool Life Wrap Top. I’m not even sure where to begin with this top. It’s a bright, vibrant red colour with large blue horses covering it. My absolute favourite part about this top is it’s beautiful balloon sleeves.
The sleeves puff out and are elasticated around the wrists. This type of sleeve is super on trend right now and I think it gives your outfit a little bit of extra pizzazz. Horses definitely aren’t a print that I have opted for before but I was just drawn to the vibrant colours of this one.
Wrap tops are an incredibly flattering fit on fuller figures and it definitely adds to my love of this top. Worn casually through the day with some trainers or add some heeled boots for a more dressy look – this top is insanely versatile. Again, I got this top in a size 14 and I have absolutely no complaints about this fit what-so-ever.
OVERALL THOUGHTS OF YO COUTURE
This brand is going to be a big freaking hit, I just know it. The fabric is sturdy and durable, the prints are un-beatable and Yekemi’s designs are just beautiful! Yo Couture is on the pricier side with the dress being £69 and the wrap top being £44 however, you definitely get what you pay for. I have a feeling that these pieces will be staying in my wardrobe for years to come!
WHERE CAN YOU FIND YO COUTURE?
There is a few ways that you can get your hands on some unique, one of kind pieces. The first is their Instagram page. On their Instagram page you can find customer photos, giveaways and inspirational quotes too. Oh and Yekemi is very active on her Instastories which are not to be missed!
If you’re not on Instagram, then head over to Yo Couture’s website. The website has lots of information on the brand and also shows off more of the stunning clothing. You can contact Yekemi through the website to discuss what she has in stock. She is also very good at making sure you purchase the right size.
The last and most exciting place that you can find Yo Couture is at their very first pop up shop in Aberdeen! Yup you heard me! You can actually get up close and personal with the clothing and find the designs that you love the most. The pop up shop will be taking place on November 28th at Cafe Society and you can grab your free tickets here. Hopefully I’ll see you there!
Have you heard of Yo Couture before? Did you prefer the dress or the top the most?
