Is there anything quite like an afternoon tea? As someone who gets major food fomo, afternoon tea is perfect because you can have a little bite of everything!
Stephen took his dad to a Glenfiddich Whisky Tour and so his mum and I decided to find somewhere out that way to enjoy a girly afternoon tea. After a quick google search, I found The Dowans Hotel in Aberlour.
THE DOWANS HOTEL

The Dowans Hotel is a family run hotel based in the heart of Speyside. The four-star hotel opened its doors in December 2012. The hotel hosts 16 en-suite rooms, an a la carte restaurant, Restuarant 57 (where the afternoon tea was hosted) and two bar areas. One of the bars is stocked with over 500 single malt whiskies – a true whisky lover’s dream!
THE AFTERNOON TEA
To start, we both ordered a pot of tea which was topped up as and when we needed fresh water which was wonderful.
We received 3 sandwich fingers each; one egg, one chicken mayo and one smoked salmon – all of which were lovely.
Next up was the scones with jam and clotted cream. It was a while after sitting down before we started our scones however, they were still warm and fluffy with a good crisp outer.

As for the sweet treats on the top, we each had a raspberry posset, chocolate brownie, a big chunk of ruby fudge and a vanilla and almond cupcakeđ§
Everything we tried was really lovely however the sweet treats weren’t to my usual taste – a bit overly sweet for my palette! We couldn’t get through it all in one sitting and they were more than accommodating in boxing up our leftovers.
The service was top notch whilst we were there. As we were the only customers in at the time, I was worried that they would be too much however there was a great balance of checking in on us and also leaving us to chat.
