Mackie’s has been on the go for over 30 years and are an incredibly popular choice around Scotland. They produce an incredible 500,000 litres of ice cream every single day which is distributed world wide! With it’s name forever growing, it was no surprise when they finally opened their first parlour in Aberdeen in the busy area of Marischal Square. Despite the parlour opening way back in December 2017 I only made my first venture into the store very recently.
The Decor
The decor is not like your average ice cream parlour – it is filled with funky LED lights along the ceiling and lots of bright colours to really draw you into the experience. There’s a fair amount of seating inside but on a rare hot and sunny day there is a substantial amount of outdoor seating too.
The Italian specialist made ice cream counter fills one side of the restaurant showcasing a mixture of classic ice cream flavours along with 20 new and exciting flavours. It also boasts a sneak peak of the other mouth watering dessert options that they have to offer.
The Menu
Where to start?! Not only can you pick up a classic ice cream cone, you can also choose from sundaes, crepes, milkshakes and of course waffles! Mackie’s claim that there is over 700,000 different possible combinations (I’d love to be the person that tries them all!) and so it definitely can be an overwhelming time trying to choose the perfect combination for you. Not to fear – Mackie’s 19.2 have a variety of pre-set options for you to try from fruit topped to alcohol infused options there is absolutely something for everyone.
If you’ve gone into Mackies 19.2 it’s probably because you’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth right? Well why not switch it up and opt for a more savoury alternative. There is a selection of breakfast waffles and crepes that incorporate a number of different ingredients such as; yoghurt, granola, chicken, ham, cheese and so much more. The options truly are endless!
Our Choices
James and I decided to make our own creations while we were in rather than choosing something off the menu. The build your own option allows you to choose one scoop of any ice cream, one sauce and two toppings, served with fresh whipped cream and a signature Mackie’s wafer.
After a good five minutes of thought, James opted for a full waffle with Birthday Cake ice cream with Dulce De Leche sauce topped with a mixture of caramel cubes and oreo pieces.
I decided to go for something a little different and chose an ice cream flavour that intrigued me immensely; banana rainbow. Alongside this I topped my waffle with Dulce De Leche sauce, caramel cubes and some fresh strawberries to complement the banana flavour in the ice cream.
My only ‘complaint’ is that I physically could not finish my dessert despite being so desperate not to leave a single bite! It was positively perfect! The waffles were warm which melted the ice cream slightly and honestly I don’t think you could pick a bad combination.
If you’re uncertain about trying a new flavour then just give the staff a shout and they’ll give you a little taster of anything you are interested in!
Have you been to Makie’s 19.2? What’s your favourite flavour ice cream?

I absolutely love Mackies 19.2! I started writing a blog post on it over a year ago but never finished, yours has certainly given me the motivation to write more now, not to mention an intense creaving to visit again. My favourite ice cream was the buttery and jam flavour but I also loved strawberry and prosecco sorbet…
These look delicious! We have a dessert place near us (in Cheltenham) that’s very similar to this.
Wow, looks well worth a visit!
