What is better than an Afternoon Tea?? – A themed one!! Sweet Mumma’s Kitchen has become a popular location in Aberdeen for their themed afternoon tea. Whether it was an at home setting or in the little shop – they really are wonderful.
ABOUT SWEET MUMMA’S KITCHEN
Sweet Mumma’s Kitchen is a quirky coffee shop based at the Arches near Union Square in Aberdeen City Centre. They specialise in coffee, amazing traybakes, delicious home cooked foods and of course excellent themed afternoon tea weekends! It’s central location makes it super easy to pop in past and pick up one (or two) of their amazing flavoured scones with your lunchtime coffee.
All run by the lovely Leanne who works incredibly hard to keep the venue looking gorgeous and selling only the best quality items on a day to day basis. She recently has been setting up some set menu evenings also with themes which I’m yet to try but sound amazing such as a Mexican night and a Christmas night coming up too.

The other amazing thing about Sweet Mumma’s Kitchen is that you can now book them out for Private Hire Events!! All food will be catered for by SMK so that you definitely don’t go hungry on your special occasion. So wonderful!
AFTERNOON TEA AT SWEET MUMMA’S KITCHEN
I have been to two themed tea’s at SMK now and neither have disappointed!
ALICE IN WONDERLAND
The first theme I went to was Alice in Wonderland which was a gift from my Sister. We went with my two nieces and it really was beautiful! At this point, I had never been to SMK before so I was really excited to see the interior and what it was like. Everything was decorated to match the theme with half painted roses across the famous SMK wall.
An array of sausage rolls, biscuits, cupcakes, macarons and tarts were presented on a delicate cake stand. On top of these goodies we were given a variety of sandwiches to chomp on too!
This was an absolute feast filled with homages to the lovely film. Each bite brought a different flavour and to know that everything was baked in-house just made everything much more personal.

You are even encouraged to dress up ( not just for kiddos! ) so I, of course, dug out some bunny ears to be the white rabbit! The vibe was amazing and I knew before I even left that I wanted to get back ASAP.
HARRY POTTER
And I sure chose a great theme to get my SMK afternoon tea fix! The first time Leanne presented the world with her Harry Potter themed tea it was an ‘at-home’ option due to covid but it completely sold out none the less. When she announced that she was hosting another one in the cafe, I eagerly awaited for the release date to get my name down!
This time the roses had been swapped with Hogwart noticed and house flags giving the cafe a very magical feel!
We were presented with delicious sandwiches, cookies, cheese twists, cupcakes and of course a golden snitch! All presented on an appropriately themed slate black stand which added to the magical feel in my opinion.
Robyn and I decided to pay £3.50 extra each to get an incredible Butterbeer Milkshake and I 100% recommend adding this to your experience if it ever comes back!
FINAL THOUGHTS
Sweet Mumma’s Kitchen really is worth visiting whether it’s for a coffee, lunch or an amazing afternoon tea! It’s clear how hard Leanne has worked to create a great atmosphere at the cafe every single day. I even got an invite to the SMK 1st birthday and got to speak to some of the regulars who also had nothing but fabulous words to say!
