ON ARRIVAL

Shortly after receiving our drinks, we were given our “on arrival” dish of PAPADI CHAT. This was a new one to me but it was a small crispy wafer garnished with potatoes, chickpeas, yogurt and spices served on a healthy bed of mixed salad.

These were absolutely delicious! S and I agreed that we could eat a bunch more of them for sure. It was a two bite taste but packed with so much flavour and texture.

PRE-STARTERS & STARTERS @ 8848

The Pre-Starter was a GOL-GOL CUTLET. The description left much to the imagination so I was unsure what this course would be like. It was a sort of fried Vegetable Patty served on a bed of salad. The patty was jammed full of filling which was great and the spices were balanced well.

For starters we had KESAR GOBI MALAI and CHICKEN PAHARI KEBAB. The Kesar Gobi Malai was described as a “safron spiced, melt-in-the-mouth, cauliflower kebab”. I wouldn’t have said melt-in-the-mouth, but it had a beautiful crunch to it that I enjoyed. Stephen cauliflower was served slightly differently due to his nut allergy.

The Chicken Pahari Kebab was marinated in green herbs and spices and was a delicate compliment against the cauliflower. I’m unsure what the 3 sauces were (the bright yellow, red and greens you see on the plate) however they were also quite delicious!

THE MAIN EVENT

I was incredibly surprised when our mains came out as we were given a curry platter. We had our own rice, salad and portions of each curry which I really enjoyed rather than the often awkward dish sharing. It also meant that the presentation did not lack! p.s don’t be fooled by the “small” bowls. They were incredibly generous portions, neither S or I could finish it all!

Bowl One featured the OLD DELHI STYLE -BUTTER CHICKEN. I am very partial to a butter chicken and this was a stand out! The chicken was tender and the sauce was incredibly creamy and very fruity.

Bowl Two was a DHABA DAL FRY – described as a world famous dal recipe from the street of India and it is not hard to see why! A Dal is not something I would usually go for but it was so creamy and rich in flavour. Absolutely perfect for scooping up into some Naan!

Last but not in Bowl Three was RAILWAY LAMB CURRY. This was the perfect spicy kick of a curry that complimented the other two mild options. The chunks of lamb were huge and fell apart with ease.

What. A. Feast.

DESSERT

For dessert I very easily chose the Indian Carrot Cake with Coconut Ice Cream. The cake itself was tasty flavour wise but the texture was not my favourite. The Ice Cream on the other hand was absolutely heavenly!

Our first trip to 8848 was a success and it certainly won’t be our last.
