FORMARTINES | MORNING WALKS AND DELICIOUS BREAKFAST

July 4, 2019

I don’t know about you but recently I’ve been loving getting up early-ish on a Sunday and going for a nice walk and a spot of breakfast. I think that means I’m an adult now???

Since we are living out in Newburgh at the moment it has given us an excuse to explore some new areas north of Aberdeen and one of those places is Formartines. It’s about 20 minutes away from Newburgh or 40 mintues from City Centre. I’d been to Formartine’s once or twice before but just for coffee – it wasn’t until I read Serena’s post about having brunch at formartines that I knew I just had to go one morning! They day we went we arrived at around 9am and the restaurant doesn’t open until 9:30 however the car park was pretty busy so I’m definitely late to knowing about how good this restaurant is! We decided to take a walk around the Formartines grounds which was absolutely beautiful even though it was a bit drizzley. There is a large woodland area and they highly suggest you take a slow walk around the Haddo Trout Lake too. If you’re lucky you’ll see a deer or two!

After a cold but peaceful walk we had worked up quite an appetite so headed back to the restaurant. Although it had just opened there was probably another  5 or 6 tables filled up which again shows how nice the place is. The decor is super bright and fun with hanging plants and photo’s all over the walls.

I just went for a standard Chai Tea Latte which has become a real addiction of mine – especially when it’s a little cold outside. James however went for a Raspberry Ripple Milkshake which looked absolutely incredible!

On to the food! I love a cooked breakfast but I fancied going for something just a little different. I opted for the Huevos Rancheros (don’t ask me how to pronounce that!) which was the Staff Pick of The Day. It consisted of a pan fried blue corn tortilla, black beans, sweet peppers, avocado, pico de galo, cotija, hot sauce and topped with a fried egg.

Oh. My. Goodness. This was absolutely amazing. It was packed full of flavours and the hot sauce really gave it a good kick! If you aren’t a big fan of spicy food then I would recommend having this without the hot sauce!

James was torn. He wanted pretty much everything on the menu! In the end he opted for pancakes with bacon and maple syrup.

The pancakes are cooked fresh to order and were cooked perfectly too might I add. They were nice and fluffy which contrasted with the crunch of the bacon. I believe they serve pancakes fresh all day so definitely try them next time you’re there! They have a fair variety of topping options.

Formartines is for sure somewhere I would happily visit for breakfast again however I’m really intrigued at what their lunch options will be like. After the amazing breakfast we received I have high expectations!

Have a fab weekend! 🙂
