Looking for something different to do in Aberdeen this weekend? Why not give Axe Throwing a go?! Yes, you read that correctly – AXE THROWING!!

Aberdeen is finally home to our very own Axe Throwing Studio!

Who are Hatchet Harrys?

Hatchet Harry proudly owns the largest indoor Axe Throwing Ranges across the UK! Their mission is to teach people about the Canadian bayard past time of Axe Throwing – so cool!

Each venue offers coaching sessions to ensure that you have fun learning many different throwing techniques whilst staying completely safe and free throw nights for those who are a little more experienced.

Our Experience

At the end of September my friends and I were invited along to a pre-opening night to see what the hype was all about!

The venue itself has bold and bright paintings across the walls and an instantly fun atmosphere. This makes it a great option for date nights, birthday’s, hen do’s and really any sort of event you can think of. The Aberdeen venue can hold groups of 2 to 66.

We had Gregor as our coach who guided us through tips and tricks on getting the most fun out of your experience while staying safe too of course! He was brilliant at showing us 5 or 6 different throwing techniques from basic straight on throws to some more wacky and wonderful throws. We even had a go at throwing 2 axe’s at once! He also made up a competition between the 4 of us so we could show off our newly developed skills!

Types of Sessions and Cost

Aberdeen offer 2 types of evenings – the 90 minute guided session that we did and a club night.

The 90 minute session is open to first-time throwers or more experienced throwers looking to boost their techniques. You are guaranteed to learn between 4 – 6 different types of throws including some trick shots if you so wish. These sessions are only £24.99 per person. Each cage can hold groups of 6-8!

The club night in Aberdeen is held on a Monday evening 5:30 – 7:30. This is great if you are looking to pick up Axe Throwing as a hobby. It gives you a chance to further enhance your skills and also play against other people in mini competitions. These nights are £12.50 per session or you can buy a block of 4 weeks for £39.99. Please Note: You must have previous experience or attended a guided session before you are able to join in on club nights.

Where are all the venues?

Final Thoughts

My team and I thoroughly enjoyed our night and honestly it is not as easy as it may look! It was almost quite daunting knowing that the sport is pretty dangerous and if you aren’t careful it can go very wrong! If you go please make sure you listen to the staff, they really do have your best interest at heart.

Big thank you to the Hatchet Harry team for having us and bringing something so new and exciting to The Deen!
